E-Meera (House Journal)

University felt the need that it should come out with its newsletter to share information about the various activities that the university is engaged in. At the same time it was also envisaged that the newsletter should also deal with emergent issues pertaining to higher education in particular and Rajasthan society in general. The Newsletter is named after Meerabai, who is one of the prominent literary figures of Rajasthan who lucidly communicated the essential values of humanity like love, compassion, truthfulness, fraternity, etc. She represents Rajasthan in purest form. Like Meerabai, the University, since its inception, has been fulfilling its commitment and service to the community at large and ODL system in particular. The legacy of Meerabai to the whole literary world in general and Rajasthani society, culture and literature in particular motivated the decision of the University to name its newsletter MEERA.

The whole idea of bringing out this University newsletter MEERA emerged at the time when Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Dadhich assumed the charged of Vice Chancellor of this University in Oct 2006. One of the immediate activities planned by him was that of holding the Third Convocation of the University. The Third Convocation was planned for January 10, 2007. Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Patil, President of India (then the Governor of Rajasthan) was to preside this convocation and eminent international scholar of open and distance learning Sir. John Daniel, Executive Director of Commonwealth of Learning was to be the chief guest on occasion. Besides, many other scholars and prominent public personalities were to grace the occasion. It was felt most appropriate that the University should bring out its newsletter at this juncture. Thus MEERA started in January 2007.

MEERA is a quarterly newsletter which is being regularly published till date. The purpose of MEERA is as follows:-

  • Sharing information about VMOU activities
  • Discussing issues related to education in general and higher in particular
  • Sharing views on Rajasthan literature and culture
